On the eBay marketplace, everyday goods are classified as general goods. Tools, bulk consumables, and hobby supplies are examples of items which are always ‘in season’. The market on Ebay is steady for these types of merchandise every month of the year.

The changes in the market demand will be small. The most common problem that happens when someone sees a particular product fetching a good price on Ebay is they are inclined to list some of their own. We can see the basic economic principle of supply and demand being applied here. Stay on track and check for other items being sold, they can cause you to lose money if the market is too saturated. When too many items of the same kind are being sold, you risk losing your profit or even forced to sell at below cost prices so try listing other items in the meantime and keep the saturated items until competition has decreased.

One good way to undercut competitors’ prices is selling used or refurbished items which you can usually get for a low price and then sell them for a profit on Ebay. People are always looking for a way to save money, so this is a fantastic way to do it. List all flaws where applicable as this show people you are honest. A bad reputation will destroy your business, so be wary of the quality of the goods you deliver be careful of the quality of the goods you deliver, it determines your survival as a seller.

When selling general products on Ebay it is easy to project the outcome because most of the time this will produce similar results to an offline trading of similar products. The effort you spent and great customer service will play an important role in the success of a merchant. Sales will not be large, but it will be steady and giving you a good income over a considerable period of time.

The stories you hear of overnight millionaires are true, but the chance of striking it rich is very slim if you are new and have yet to learn the ropes of trading in eBay. Aim to make a good regular supplemental income. Never sell only one kind of product because this can be ‘the kiss of death’ to a merchant. Include many kinds of products so that the effect of one single product alone will not affect the overall sales.

The demand for general goods on eBay will always be present. Start by setting up your own store in eBay. Once our reputation is established, you can expect to make lots of money through this marketplace Exercise patience and take time to build your reputation and the trust of your customers.

Ebay auctions and wholesale jewelry are a winning team. Ebay is a a fantastic place to find almost any item that you can imagine. Jewelry wholesale auctions are quite common on eBay, and in many cases, you cannot beat the prices that are offered here. Prepare yourself beforehand to avoid being scammed.

Start by reading all of the fine details about the jewelry wholesale lots that you are purchasing. If you still have questions, send those questions to the seller through eBay’s website. Make sure that you keep all of your contact with the seller through the website so that there is documentation.

Check out the person or company that is offering the jewelry wholesale. Look at their ratings and their feedback. Has there been any negative feedback? If so, you may want to reconsider your options and look into other auctions. If the feedback is all positive, and the seller’s rating is high, doing business with them should not be a problem.

Make sure that you are clear about shipment costs and the shipment time frame, as well as the payment options offered. Usually, the buyer is responsible for the shipment costs, and this is added to the total and paid before the item ships. In the case of high ticket items, insurance may be required on the item as well. The seller seldom pays the shipping costs.

If the jewelry wholesale is a very high ticket item, such as jewelry that is bought in bulk or rare pieces of expensive jewelry, you should strongly consider using the escrow service that is recommended by eBay.

Beware of sniper’s on eBay! Sniping is against the rules at eBay, but unfortunately people do it anyway. Sniping is basically automatic bidding, which is not against the rules, but the software or service is instructed to place the highest bid in the last possible minute of the auction. This leaves no time for anyone else to place a higher bid.

Instead of sniping, place your first bid at the maximum amount that you are willing to pay for the jewelry wholesale lot. Each time the bid is raised, your bid will automatically be raised until your limit is reached. This is not sniping, and it is a perfectly legal way to bid on auctions at eBay.

The trouble with making an income out of EBay is

1. The competition is fierce
2. Most of the good ideas have been exhausted
3. You may not have the finances to buy in stock

About 6 months ago my son decided to have a go at supplementing his pocket money by trying to make money on EBay. I have no idea how he managed it however he is now earning approx £200 per month with no hassle or risk, He simply used the small amount of brains he was blessed with, from his mother’s side no doubt.

Finding the right product

This was the most difficult thing, for weeks he looked at what other people were selling on EBay. It became apparent that many of the Power Sellers are simply selling items listed on Amazon, making their profit by marking up the prices slightly and then having them delivered straight to the winning bidders address. This idea was dismissed as the Power Sellers have this area well tied up.

I advised him to look for a product that would cost him very little to produce. He then spent the next week looking at all kinds of software, he had plenty of ideas, however I informed him he would not be allowed to sell anything that would be illegal. I remember to this day he stomped off like Kevin the teenager.

The product

Eventually he exclaimed he had found the right product, software manuals, help manuals etc. I looked into the products he had chosen and found it was all legal.

He then went away and using his P2P software downloaded about 20 of these manuals.

The next day he listed the manuals on EBay, it took time to start with as his feedback rating was low, however eventually his orders started rolling in.

Over the past 6 months he has built himself up slowly and now earns around £200 per week. He expects his sales to grow at a slow rate in the future.

Conclusion

This has shown that there are still opportunities on EBay, getting young people involved not only gives them a little financial independence it also gives them the confidence to venture deeper into the business world.

Unfortunately EBay has become a haven for conmen and hoods, however there is money to be made by decent law-abiding people who are just looking to earn a few extra pounds, my son has shown that.

If you decide to give it a go, good luck.

There isn’t a week that goes by without someone asking me how to sell products on eBay. It’s a great question! And I enjoy talking about the topic quite a bit, but my answer is always the same – sell like a Powerseller! Here’s what I mean…

An eBay Powerseller is someone that generates $1000 or more in sales for three consecutive months. You don’t have look too far on eBay to realize that the place is literally crawling with Powersellers.

I’ve spent over 5 years studying eBay, as well as, buying and selling products under several eBay IDs. I noticed that there are two types of eBay Powersellers:

1. Niche Powersellers
2. On-Demand Powersellers

The Niche Powersellers specialize in a particular area – like antiques, coins, dolls, etc. This particular area is a hobby to these people and they are very good at finding products at a low enough cost within this market to sell for a nice profit. These Powersellers are hard to imitate.

One the other hand, the On-Demand Powersellers are not very familiar with the products they sell, but they are very familiar with what the eBay community wants and how they can go about getting it. I call them On-Demand Powersellers because they seek out products to sell based on the level of demand inthe eBay community. These are the Powersellers that you should try to follow.

A common misconception that new eBay users have is thinking that all Powersellers are large retail outlet doing business on eBay. This simply isn’t true. The majority of the Powersellers that I know typically run their business out of a basement or garage. Ebay has a great way of leveling the playing field in this respect. For example, a student can open an account and create ads that are just as enticing as any large company that happens to be selling the same products on ebay.

So how can you do business like On-Demand Powersellers?

That’s actually an easy question to answer; obtain a seller’s permit, find a demand for a particular product, and then find a wholesale supplier for that particular product.

A seller’s permit will allow you to purchase products for wholesale from wholesale venders. This is the first thing any legitimate wholesale company will ask for, and if you don’t have one, they could very likely not do business with you.

You can obtain a sellers permit here

You can find the demand for numerous products on eBay by using the eBay ‘Hot Items’ resource (in link below). This resource consists of (among other things) a 40+ page pdf document that lists which items are hot sellers in the numerous categories. The data is usually for the previous 2 months.

Find out ‘What’s Hot’ on eBay here

After you’ve identified which items were hot sellers, go to eBay’s Advance Search and conduct a search for those products to make sure they’re still hot sellers (have plenty of bids). Also do a search for the same product with the ‘Completed Items’ option in the Advanced Search checked. This will show you which auctions sold and how much they sold for.

Once you have a product in mind, do a search on Google for the manufacture of the product. When you get to the website, look for a contact number, or a ‘Dealer inquiry’ number. This information is also usually on the box of the product itself, so it may take a run to your local store if you don’t have any luck on the web.

Give them a call. Inform them that you run a business and are interested in becoming a dealer of the product. Most are very helpful in getting you setup. However, be aware, some may have a minimum purchase order. Never the less, if you did your eBay research correctly, you’ll know how much these items have recently sold for, and how much they are currently selling for, thus, you can be pretty confident that the money will be made back.

I recently came across two Powersellers that are extremely successful doing with this process. One Powerseller had sold over $100,000 worth of those little robotic-vacuuming-Frisbee thingies in 60 days! The other Powerseller does extremely well selling dog chews. Both Powersellers simply identified the demand for these products, then sought out the manufactures and became dealers… the rest is history.

Sincerely,

Michael Ellis

Once you’ve optimised your titles for search terms and your items have short durations to get them near the top of the results, there’s really only one sure-fire way to make your auction stand out from the crowd. Unfortunately, it involves paying eBay more money – but it can really pay off, especially for higher-priced items.

In this post, I’ll take you through the various “listing upgrades” eBay offer, how much they cost, and whether they’re any good. Remember that if you want any of these, you can just tick their box while you’re going through the process of listing your item. The charges will be added to the other fees you’re charged for the listing.

Gallery. The most basic of upgrades, this will show your photo on the search results page as well as inside on the item’s description page. This is always worth having. Cost: 35c.

Subtitle. If you add a subtitle, you get a little more space to fit in any extra information that you couldn’t squeeze into the title. Use this if you’re selling a relatively technical item that just has too many good features to fit into that 55-letter title space. Cost: 50c.

Bold. This will put your auction’s title in bold on search results pages. Not especially noticeable, but might make your auction stand out a little. Cost: $1.

Border. Choose this option to put your listing inside a coloured box on results pages, making it look a bit special. Cost: $3.

Highlight. You can get your listing highlighted in purple on results pages. Cost: $5.

Featured Plus. This upgrade will show your item at the top of the page in the search results, with the “featured items”, for the duration of your listing. It will also be shown in the featured items list seen by people who browse by category. This is easily the best upgrade you can buy, and will easily pay for itself twice over with an item that’s worth more than about $100 and getting a decent number of bids. Cost: $19.95.

Gallery Featured. This will show your item first when someone chooses to view items using the “Picture Gallery” view. Few people ever use this view, but it might be useful for some kinds of items. Cost: $19.95.

Home Page Featured. This is the ultimate in listing upgrades, but its value is questionable, especially given the small space featured items are actually given on the home page. If you think you could pull a lot of buyers into your auction with nothing but the first four or five words of your title, go for it. Really, you have to get yourself on the home page at least once in your eBay life, don’t you? Cost: $39.95.

Instead of going to expense to get new buyers through the listings, perhaps you should talk to your existing ones and create some new sales opportunities that way?
