Any tips for selling on eBay?

I am needing some extra money. do you have any good suggestions for selling on eBay? What are things you think will sell the best and make good money? Thank you.

admin answers:

buy at auctions then sell on ebay, Fishing Equipment, Electronics, Newer Stereo equipment if you like to shop at night I personally dont but it is an idea, Books, Collectibles, what I did first off was looked around the house for stuff i didnt want, looked on ebay to see if it was selling and if it was lowered my starting bid lower then everyone elses took pics and listed. You will get the hang of it after your first sale, dont go 7 days, drags too long what I do to avoid most of these SnipersAUTO bidders to cost you money is to Set it up for a 5 day listing then shoot it to 3 after the 1st day

Donna asks…

What are the best tips for selling on eBay?

admin answers:

I think one of the best tips would be to avoid using a reserve if at all possible. There ARE some items that need a reserve, such as one-of-a-kind or rare items, but for the most part it is best to research the item beforehand, see what similar items have sold for, and then decide if you can live with that price. You’re taking a risk, but a lot of people (for whatever reason) avoid bidding on reserve-price auctions. If you DO use a reserve, do your best to make it as low as is reasonably possible. Hope this helps.

Selling stuff on ebay – tips, how to, suggestions, etc.?

I am considering selling a few items on ebay and was wondering how the process works, if there are any good tips out there, and any other helpful information.
I have purchased a few items through ebay, so I am not totally clueless, and I have yet to really look around on ebay itself for a how-to for selling items. I would still like to get peoples opinions, suggestions, tips, view on how-to before I go looking on there – so advise way =)

admin answers:

Make sure you know exactly how much your stuff will cost to ship, or use a flat rate box. Otherwise, you can easily lose money. Also keep in mind the fees you are charged when you list your item(very inexpensive) but also the fees when your item sells. I’m not sure what they are but you can look that up on Ebay. Be very accurate with your description, some people will look for anything to give you negative feedback.

Ebay: Tips on selling my Nintendo 64 and games?

Hey! I am ready to sell my (fully working) Nintendo 64 on Ebay, as well as the controllers and games etc. I was just wondering if anyone could give me some tips for a successful sale. Below I am going to put a few bulletpoints but anythign is most appreciated:

Should I sell them in a bundle or separately?
How long should I auction them for?
Should I set a BUY NOW price?
What should I do for shipping?

Please answer these in more than a “yes/no” manner and add anything else, thanks!

This will be my first sale.

admin answers:

I think you should sell the system with the controllers, but sell the games separately.

I would say set the auction to at least 3 days, maybe a week.

Don’t set a buy it now price unless you have done a lot of research to see what they will sell for on eBay – you don’t want to sell them for less than they are worth.

Shipping is your own preference – find out how much it would cost to ship from wherever it is you would like to ship (USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc.) and charge accordingly. I use FedEx Ground on eBay (because my dad has an account there). I would suggest saying no international shipping on the listing somewhere – it can be a pain in the butt.

Also, an extra tip – people (well most people anyway, especially me) are reluctant to buy from first-time sellers. You may be able to sell your stuff for more if you have a friend/family member with an eBay account that they have sold from before.

Any EBAY selling tips?

what is your formula for getting the highest bid on things you sell? I have been trying to offer free shipping as a way to entice buyers to bid on my items. It seems to be helping a little…

admin answers:

The best advice for selling on eBay is:

1) Make sure your items are in new or near new condition
2) Offering free shipping is good, but make sure the item gets there as fast as it can
3) Keep up communication with the person who buys the item. Speak to them when they win the auction, when they ship it, and follow up on the day when the shipping service says they should have received it to make sure its to their liking.
4) Offer Paypal… everyone does it nowadays so its pretty much a standard… I know I don’t buy anything from anyone unless they offer Paypal as a form of payment.
5) Offering a no-hassle refund on certain items (30 day policy or something like that) is always a good eye-catcher for people who buy online… chances are they won’t refund something, but its still something that makes people feel secure.

Charles asks…

I want to sell stuff on ebay. How do I accept money ?

I just have few things I’d like to get rid off. I don’t wanna do business selling stuff on ebay. I have a free paypal account which I use to buy stuff off of ebay. But in order for me to sell on ebay, I need to be able to accept payments by paypal, correct ? If so, I need something like premiere paypal service or whatever they are called, which costs money, right ? If I have to pay paypal in order to accept payment, I don’t think that’ll leave me with much and I only have 3 or 4 items I wanna sell. Any pointers you can offer will be much appreciated.
OK thanks all for your answers but no one is saying if I pay paypal for being able to accept paypal. I have no problem accepting money to my paypal account, just don’t wanna have to pay them hefty fees so that I can accept paypal. If I was doing this to sell items regularly, I can see paying for it but I just have few tech itmes like, hard drives, portable dvd player, software and stuff.

I could never accept personal check from a stranger anyhow.

admin answers:

You can always accept money orders/cashiers checks without using Paypal. But, paypal is very easy, not expensive and quicker than waiting on mail. No setup fees, etc. Just a certain percent of collected, like 2%. Check out the link below. Or, if it doesn’t work – paypal website.

David asks…

how to find free and good drop-ship to sell on ebay?

how to find a good dorp ship

admin answers:

1- You can go to trade shows
2- You can review industry publications (for either featured articles on suppliers OR the adds paid for these publications by product sources)
3- You can contact the brands to see if they can alert you to authorized distributors.
4- You can go to http://inventorysource.com/ and create a free account and register (still free…and free for life, not just some 7 day trial) and get access to the verified wholesale drop ship supplier directory with the Inventory Browser Tool or the Supplier Info menu item to view the contact details and policies, etc.

However, you should look to sell on eBay, but you should also look at PriceGrabber, Amazon Marketplace, Amazon Seller Central, Shopping.com, JellyFish, and others. You can have custom files made for any of those services with the Inventory Source tools as well. eBay is not the onlye place you can list products for sale online and they might not be the best for some of your products compared to the rates at other marketplaces.

Thomas asks…

How do you use ebay? How do you sell things on that site?

I’ve never used ebay. My general questions are:

Is it free to use? How do you sell? If you sell, how does ebay collect their commission? How do you ship the product you sold?

Any answer will be greatly appreciated.

admin answers:

You pay 3 fees to eBay/Paypal.

Listing fees to list. These are non-refundable and you pay them even if the item doesn’t sell. These are added to your eBay invoice which is billed once a month.

Final Value fees. These are charged if you have a winner. Handled the same was as listing fees, though they can be a month later.

Paypal fees. these are paid as you receive money.

plan on 10% for fees.

I always shipped via the postal system. I also made sure I knew how much it would cost to ship BEFORE I listed the item for sale.

Maria asks…

how can i make money selling on ebay?

what items where to buy them etc

admin answers:

The best way to learn what to sell and how to sell is to first learn how to do market research. For example when deciding what to sell start off by figuring out several different items you might be interested in selling on ebay then head over to ebay and start looking up these items..

Find the sellers that seem to be selling this stuff and try to determine who the ones are that are making any serious money. I’ll give you a hint on finding profitable items on ebay..when you do a search on the right hand side you’ll see a box called completed items. When you do a search with this filter on it’ll show you everything that sold for that search within the last 30 days..here’s the trick

If it’s in green it sold if it’s listed in red it didn’t..that tip is a great starting point to learning how to do market research on ebay..

I also found this site very helpful in learning more about how to sell on ebay successfully

Ken asks…

How can I make money from ebay?

I’m only 16 but I want to make a little bit of extra money selling things on ebay. What is the best way to do this? I don’t mind investing money to start it off

admin answers:

The same way as any retail establishment does…buy low, and sell high. Your problem lies in figuring out where to buy stuff cheap, and what to buy, and what price to start the bidding on. You are also going to have problems because you’re a minor, and can’t legally make binding contracts.

Just because something is cheap, or is a “collector’s edition”, doesn’t mean that you can turn it around and sell it for big bucks. You have to educate yourself about what you want to buy and sell, just like any other merchant. For instance, I know where to find decent used books that are likely to re-sell for a lot more than I paid for them. However, I know how to rate the condition of books, and I know which books are likely to re-sell and which are just going to never sell unless I price them at a dime or a quarter each.

How much money can I make selling Avon on ebay?

I am a stay at home mom looking to start with Avon, how much is the earning potential if I stay completely ebased not going door to door to sell? I would like to just work off ebay. Does Avon have a drop ship type of program or would I have to stock items?

admin answers:

In my humble opinion….maybe try something else?

I would put your thinking cap on!

Look at all the things first that sell on e-bay…When you have a spare moment.o.k.
Then if you can just do some home work, and think ‘what’ is it that doesn’t sell on e-bay?…that maybe could?

E-bay is unlimited for selling….but Avon and others have been done to death!

You need to have inspiration…..but with thought! you may just pick a huge winner! GOOD LUCK!

Steven asks…

How do people make money on half.com (or ebay) selling books for 75 cents?

I recently decided to tackle my overflowing bookcase and get rid of some books I know I will never read again. I went to half.com (part of ebay) and my books were selling for 75 cents. I know that the shipping I get reimbursed is never enough so there is no way I would make any money on these items. Why are so many people selling their things at prices like these if they are not making a profit? I see people selling coupons on ebay for 50 cents with free shipping. I mean, really, they have to clip them and pay for postage, what are they gaining?

admin answers:

Actually, if you get a good price on padded envelopes, the shipping reimbursement usually leaves you with a little profit.

Every 75 cent book you sell will add to your feedback reputation, which will help you to sell *more* books and which will help you to sell the higher priced books in your inventory.

Also, the most important thing for me, is that selling the books, even at such a small profit, gets them out of my house and into someone else’s house – someone who wanted to read the book, anyway & who was looking for a bargain. I don’t mind helping out with that kind of system. And, I appreciate it, myself, when I’m on the buying end of the transaction.

Linda asks…

Any tips you have learned about selling on ebay that a rookie wouldn’t think of?

I have some truck bed extenders that my work repossed from its customer. I offered to try and sell them on ebay, but haven’t had much luck. What tips do you have in regards to reserves, time length of auction, buy it now etc.

I have several versions for different trucks. I don’t know how much longer I will have to try and make some money off of these, so I want to try an move them quickly before they decide to scrap them out for materials.

Thanks for mentoring!

admin answers:

ALways start your listings on a sunday evening and run them for 7 days only.

You will only get interest when the item starts, and when it ends.

Sunday is the best day to end as the most people are on ebay.

Also if you list several things all at once, its a damn site easier to keep track of things. Be methodical. Listings end and people pay (sometimes!) on Sunday, you package your item on Monday (if applicable), them mail it on Tuesday,.

Buyers will be very impressed.

Another tip: ALWAYS answer messages quickly.

Another tip: when you go to sell something, type in the description on BUY and see who else is selling the same thing.

Then TICK the box COMPLETED LISTINGS on the left hand side, to see how much people have paid for it in the past, you may be surprised.

Forget the add-on features ebay tries to sell you. they are a waste of your money, ebay charge high fees and make billions of dollars. Just a basic, well thought out listing and a good photo will sell your item.

My Last tip, is this………….Use as many keywords as possible in the description. Even it doesn’t make sense. It will bring more traffic to your advert, and more potential buyers.

So if you are selling an old star wars figure, list it like this “VINTAGE 1978 RETRO DARTH VADER STAR WARS STARWARS”
try it, you may be surprised. good luck

Ruth asks…

Can you tell me the basics of Ebay?

I wanna learn to sell on Ebay. Can you tell me the basics? How can I sell and avoid the fees when I post the items?

admin answers:

That cannot be avoided. Thats how they make their money. If you want to pay the minimum, do not add any pictures, no borders, etc. do not offer it as buy it now and do not set a reserve price. That is the cheapest way to sell on ebay.

Chris asks…

How difficult is it to set up an account to sell on Ebay?

I have some items around the house not doing me any good, and am wondering if it would be worth setting up an account to sell. Is it easy to learn all this?

admin answers:

Not hard at all. You will also have to set up a paypal account but that isn’t hard either. They both will guide you step by step and there are lots of FAQ’s and ebay even has a live chat if you need. I have used it once and they were very helpful.

Steven asks…

Is there any way to open up a free bank account for selling things on eBay?

I don’t know a thing really about ebay, so if someone could explain how to sell for me would be great, but what I want to know: Do you have to pay the bank to open up an account? or is there a way to open one up for free? If so which banks do it for free? Im not sure if you understand what I’m trying to ask, but please try to understand the best you can, Thank you.

admin answers:

eBay owns Paypal which can be used by buyers to purchase whatever you are selling on eBay. You can open a Paypal account which will need a bank account so you can move funds from Paypal to your checking account. If you have a checking account already, that will be sufficient.

You will need a credit card in order to sell on eBay. eBay charges you to list your products and complete any transaction.

Ruth asks…

How do people selling on Ebay get coupons for free stuff like Pepsi and Starbucks coffee?

They sell them for pretty good prices but I cannot figure out how they get them! There are coupons for free 12 oz bags of SB coffee to use at the grocery stores. They look like they are printed or copied.

admin answers:

That’s exactly it.
They get one valid one and then they make a million copies.
Retailers are very hip to this and will reject what they call “internet coupons” for very high cost items like a pound of coffee or a whole 18 pound Butterball.
Manufacturers will create very specific certificates that are of heavier stock than regular “print out of your printer” coupons.
Most of those coupons on Ebay are fakes, and stores are cracking down on this by detaining people who try and use them by calling the cops and trying to get them arrested for fraud.

Carol asks…

how can people afford to sell something for like 3 dollars on ebay and offer free shipping?

the shipping is more than three dollars right?

admin answers:

the free shipping may be provided if the seller is a power seller (strong seller) and has cost effective delivery methods to certain destinations.

often there is a cap where the seller performs unlimited shipping for a fixed price

Is there a way to word my item so people easily know what there getting without euphination, but vage enough to bypass the blacklist. ex the runescape backdoor selling joke with free runescape account. any other ideas?

Well you could try referring to it as a battery fix. The name is most likely whats setting off the red flag. Also you could try selling it on Amazon.com
