Richard asks…
what is the most cost effective way to ship books and clothing?
Allow me to explain. I am currently selling books and clothing on ebay. I understand that ups is more expensive than usps. How much should I charge as a flat rate per item? Is it more economical to ship in a box or a flat envelope? thank you in advance for your input.
I am only shipping from nyc to all states.

You can ship books media mail, which is cheaper. On e-bay you can charge a flat rate for shipping or you can have it calculate the shipping. I usually do that because it costs more to send it farther away and I have cheated myself by doing a flat rate. When you list it and it asks you about shipping you put calculate charges. Then it will ask for the approximate size and weight of the package. When the buyer pays for the item he/she will enter the zip code it’s going to and the computer will calculate the shipping.

Ruth asks…
How much should I sell an autographed book for?
I have a Freedom Writers Diary http://www.amazon.com/Freedom-Writers-Diary-Teacher-Themselves/dp/038549422X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1244244687&sr=8-1 but the inside page is autographed be one of the major freedom writers Maria Reyes. I am trying to sell this book on ebay, what would be a good price to list it at??
Nope it is a brand new book

admin answers:
Do an eBay search on the same book, for completed listings only. List your copy at the highest price that the book sold for.
Do this only if your copy is fine or better quality. Quality is EVERYTHING in used book sales. If your copy does not look brand new, don’t expect to get more than a few bucks for it, even if it is autographed by one of the teenagers who was one of the major writers. If the teen has gone on to win a Nobel prize, has become some sort of celebrity, or has otherwise become either famous or notorious, then the book’s value will be higher. Otherwise, it will mostly only have sentimental value to people close to him/her.
This book has a limited audience, and it’s contemporary. It’s not a classic, though it may have enjoyed a temporary popularity.
Look at your copy closely and critically. Is the spine broken in one or several places? It looks like the book is a trade paperback. If it is, is the cover intact? Does it have any places where the color printed portion of the cover is missing, showing the white underlying cardstock? If it’s a hardback, does it have its dust jacket? Is the DJ clean and complete and smooth, or is it creased, dirty, and torn? Have the pages inside remained white, or have they turned yellow or brown, especially at the edges? Have the pages been dogeared? Are they torn? Are some missing? Are they dirty?
Take a good sniff of the book. Does it smell of cigarette smoke? Does it smell like mildew, or mold?
Unless you can honestly say that the book is in fine shape or better, you will be lucky to get one dollar.

Jenny asks…
Selling college books on amazon or ebay?
Which one is a better site to sell on?
How do the fee’s work? I believe amazon takes 10% (?), what about ebay?
Any feedback you have is appreciated.

admin answers:
It depends on the books. I have sold on both half.com (the eBay site) and Chegg.com. I usually look at what the book is going for on the site and see which is higher.
I’ve never sold a book on amazon, so not sure how that would be.
