Maria asks…

How does buying/selling on ebay work?

I’ve never used ebay because I never trusted it. I always thought if I tried to buy something there, I’d get ripped off and I wouldn’t receive it. But I never really knew how it worked.

admin answers:

The ebay site explains it all. If you are gullible, you can get scammed, If you are cautious, you will be fine. Buy from only sellers having at least a 99%+ feedback rating with over 50 transactions

Carol asks…

Can anyone with experience on buying/ selling on ebay help me out?

I’m going to open an ebay account to start selling things I don’t need anymore. I have some questions still.
-What do I need to create an ebay account?
-How does paypal work? Do I put info about my bank account or just a certain credit card?
-When mailing the product, who pays for mailing it and how do I mail it?
-How safe is it?

Hello,

Here are the answers to your questions:

1. To create an ebay account, go to eBay.com and click the signup link. To sell, you will need a credit card, bank account, and your personal info.

2. Paypal is an online bank that eBay owns. Put your bank info if required (recommended so you can transfer your money to your account free). You can signup fairly quickly (although they usually make a deposit into your bank so you can confirm your account, and that takes a couple of days sometimes).

3. You can either charge shipping, or give free shipping (but obviously charge a little more). It is up to you completely! You are the boss! I would recommend shipping through the post office, as they are almost always cheapest. They have free boxes & envelopes if you send priority, however, it may be cheaper to send standard mail. You can look up rates at usps.com. eBay also has a shipping calculator if you can estimate the weight, and it will give the proper shipping rate to the buyer based on their zip.

4. It is safe, but you have to ship to their confirmed address on the payment page, and you MUST get delivery confirmation from the USPS to show proof it was delivered (you need to get signature proof if it is over $250).

Listen, I have done this stuff for years, and it is hard when you start out. But I know it like the back of my hand. If you have any other questions, ask me by using the “ASK ME” button from my blog below. I will be happy to help you out!

There are also some free templates you can use to sell your items!

Best of luck!

Thomas asks…

What happens if a package gets lost when buying/selling on ebay?

If someone buys something off ebay and it gets lost in the mail what does the seller traditionally do for the buyer? Do you normally get a refund from the seller or what? How can a buyer prove the package is actually lost and never received?

Thanks!

admin answers:

If your package is shipped via US Postal Service, there is a destination scan before it is delivered to you or to your PO Box. If shipped by carrier, you need to SIGN for it. It is easy enough to verify if one of the above happened. If you never received your item, the seller usually carries insurance, and can either send you another of the same item or a substitute you both agree on, and file insurance claim for the lost item, or refund your money. Contact the seller if this is the case.

Charles asks…

What is your best advice about selling/buying on eBay?

I’m a young man looking to sell some spare computer parts and other electronic accessories. I thought eBay would be my best bet. Now I want to ask you, what can you teach me about it? What have you learned about dealing directly with costumers/sellers, and what did learning that make you do differently? Thanks so much!

admin answers:

I have been buying and selling on Ebay for many years.
The main thing I would like to warn you about is the fact that Ebay has changed their feedback policy recently.
Sellers are no longer allowed to give buyers feedback, which in turn has been a horrible experience for me, because some buyers are bidding on items, not paying for them and then also leaving negative feedback. Ebay will not remove the negative feedback even though the buyer did not pay for the items. I did follow policy and issued non payment disputes to the buyers in turn they received strikes against their accounts.
The whole thing is……Ebay has made alot of their sellers unhappy with this new feedback policy. If you want to learn more about it, you can go to Ebay and read the forums there.
Good luck
