How do you sell things on Ebay?
I have a few things I want to sell on ebay. I want to know if ebay charges you. I also have a Pay-pal account and i want to know how much Pay-pal wil charge me. Thank you

First they charge you a fee for the listing that’s not usually too bad, 1.00 3.00. then if you have a reserve price on it ,then they carge about 8% of the reserve price. whether it sells or not. But if you start out at 0.99 and the auction runs for let’say 7 days and it sells for say 5.00 you have to sell for that and all I can say is watch the shipping charges even though the buyer pays for that, if you don’t calculate it right, you will get burnt, long story short, if you got it for nothing, sell on e-bay, but buying and selling on e-bay is pretty risky, just past experience , that’s all

Paul asks…
Do you have to list things you sell on Ebay as part of your income?
I’ve started selling things on Ebay and I’m just wondering how far you can take it before it’s considered a secondary source of income? Do you have to list it on your taxes?

admin answers:
The answer, according to the code, is that you are required to report all income. From all sources. Even things that are not taxable (e.g., gifts) are to be reported.
You can then (again IRS rules), deduct the reasonable expenses allowed by the Code.
Having said that, it is not uncommon for income from (for example) rummage sales and other sales of personal property to not be reported to the IRS. Many taxpayers forget the law, and the IRS really hasn’t come down on individuals who supplement their income in that manner. But, legally, they can. To them, income is income.
Now, if you decide to be the honest person, and obey the code, you will need to also report this income to your state. Also, their may then be sales taxes. So, you will be getting yourself into many other tax areas should you decide to report.
With all this complicated stuff, I can really understand why virtually no individual (as opposed to businesses) who sells on e-bay reports the income. Especially where the IRS is not going out to collect. But no professional can ethically recommend that you not report the income.

How do I sell things on ebay?
I have lots of books for college to sell on ebay. I need help knowing how to get started.

admin answers:
http://www.half.ebay.com/textbooks
HalfCom may may be a better choice to sell used textbooks, so explore that eBay company first. The instructions below apply to eBay itself except for the USPS links.
Create an eBay seller’s account

To start selling safely and inexpensively on eBay; take up to five easily-mailed items from your closet, garage or basement that you no longer want, but think might sell. Books should be sent USPS Media Mail for the lowest shipping cost. Take a picture of each (if you don’t have a digital camera, borrow one).
http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/insertion-fee.html
FIVE Single quantity Auction-Style listings with no upgrades, just a Single picture and as long a description as you want qualifies for FREE Insertion every 30 days. Set the starting bid for the lowest you’ll accept and if they don’t sell, you PAY NOTHING.
http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/fvf.html#how
The MOST you’ll pay in Final Value fees will be 8.75%.
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/Marketing/consumer/Receive_Money-outside
Eventually, you’ll have to upgrade your Personal PayPal account to a Premier so you may accept payment from your buyers. Each sale costs 30 cents plus 2.9% on the total (including shipping) received from your buyer.
Determine correct postage in advance and ALWAYS include Delivery Confirmation on any sold items when you ship with the USPS (Post Office). It adds less than $1 to the postage and is your ONLY protection against item not received claims.

Five plain, single item auctions a month is an easy way to get your feet wet on eBay. Do that every 30 days until you’re comfortable with eBay, PayPal and your Post Office. Don’t expect to make a fortune.

How do you sell things on Ebay without a digital camera?
I took some nice clothes to a consignment shop a few weeks ago and these clothes were very nice and almost brand new. One of the dresses I only wore once. They gave me a whole $5 for them and $8 in credit. I wasn’t very pleased with them and let them know. Can you sell things like clothing on ebay and make a decent profit if you don’t have a digital?

admin answers:
You could try Boxaroo.com. They have a database with tons of stock photos & descriptions for common items so you wouldn’t need a digital camera. But if you have an unique item, I would highly recommend getting photos from the Web and uploading them.
Digital cameras are so affordable these days that you should really consider investing in one. You don’t need the latest and greatest — even a 3 or 4 Megapixel camera is fine for what you’re doing.
