Try searching ebay and see what bids are currently at for similar items. That should help you gauge how much to start at. There’s no telling how high someone will bid though.

Mandy asks…

How much to charge to sell items on Ebay for someone?

I have a newer friend/acquaintance that asked if I would be willing to list some items on ebay for her (I buy and sell on ebay all of the time). She wants to give me a percentage of what sells. What is the norm for this? How much should I charge?

admin answers:

Wait till the auction has ended and charge her the fees(final, listing& pay-pal) and 10%. Thats fair!

James asks…

How easy is it to sell my items on eBay?

I mean I have jerseys, router, drills, and other stuff that I want to sell on eBay. How easy is it to sell items and receive the money?
What kind of fees do they ask for?

admin answers:

Fees are normally .75 to $1 per auction listing, depending on what your listing entails price wise, and other details.
Research recently ended auction, similar items to the items you wish to sell.
I have sold on ebay for over 5 years now, and sell higher priced items that seemed to have done well for others. But, sometimes you find a diamond in the rough, or find out what you thought was a diamond is just a piece of dirt.
Hope this helps.
Good luck Hon.

Maria asks…

What and how is the cheapest way to ship the items I Sell on ebay?

I just started selling items on ebay. The last few items that I shipped have been light weighted and the shipping is about $10.00… I think it is way too much money. Especially if I will be shipping constantly. Is it because of the size of the box? Please Help.

admin answers:

Figuring out the most economical shipping methods for your eBay sales can be complicated. Here’s a few rules of thumb. For books, CDs, DVDs, etc., use USPS Media Mail – you can ship a 10 pound box of books for under $6! For non-media items under about 5 pounds and not oddly shaped, USPS Parcel Post is generally the cheapest. For heavier items, UPS becomes competitive, especially if you purchase through Paypal.

Chris asks…

How to be sure items will sell on EBAY?

Im starting to sell items on ebay and its really hard. i want some ideas that i can do the page or things to say that will draw peoples attention to my page any ideas????

admin answers:

Prepare your listing

You have your item,
Compose title (use max. number of words you can, avoid symbols like @@ or something that not describe your item) use key word which are the most corresponding to your item.
Compose description as accurate as possible keep it simple.
Take a picture
Picture is very important ingredient to your listing. Good picture is worth 1,000 words. You should have digital camera 5 Mega pix. is enough. If you don’t know how to take good picture ask your kids relatives they will know.

Tips:

stay focus on your item (keep it in the center of the picture, less empty space around it the better)
use some contrast color for background (if you item is light color try darker for background or if your item is dark try lighter color for background)
try to use natural light it is not going to change color of your item (watch for shadow)
if you have to use flash avoid shiny surfaces or try different angles
always take coupe pictures than pick the best (first picture is free on you listings) in most cases you will need only one)
If your hands are shaky use tripod if don’t have one (you can always buy cheep one on eBay) use something to support your hand it can be anything (backrest of your chair, table – put your item on the floor ….)

But don’t worry it is not the end of the world. It should be some fun too.

Now you have everything what you need to list your item.

go to eBay log in
click sell button follow the steps
write title
upload your picture
write description
pick type of auction you want ( I recommend regular with low start price .99 c)
pick duration 7 days work jus fine (pick 10 days if you have more expensive item and you want longer time for exposure)
Pick the day you want to start your auction if you pick 7 day auction it will be also day when auction will end.
Pick your shipping price and handling time (how soon you are able to ship your item after auction end’s
Pick your return policy (it is obligation right now)
Pick payment method (paypal)
Than very important before you list your item preview it and double check everything.
Than list you item, and wait for bidders to buy your item. Good luck.

Listing Tips:
This is probably the most important information so please read it all.
Understanding eBay’s Auction System
First, you must understand the way the auction system works on eBay. All auctions on eBay are listed by date and time. For example, if you are listing a camera for a 7 day listing, your listing will enter at the bottom of all other camera listings and will work its way to the top of the listings as the end of the auction approaches. Shoppers can choose from a drop down box (on the right side of the search results page) how to view their search, but by default, eBay will list them according to the “Best Match.” Most people who search for items on eBay will look two different ways, ” Time: newly listed” and ” Time: ending soonest.” Meaning, those that were most recently listed and those listings that are about to en d… As a general behavior, most people will look through the first 3-4 pages of listings. If they don’t find what they are looking for; they will search a different way. So, if your 7-day listing is not within those top 3 pages, chances are they will not see it until the last 24-36 hours of the listing. Most listings get the majority of the viewers in the last hour of the sale. A lot of serious bidders will only bid within the last five minutes! Call it competitive human nature or general shopping behavior, consumers are more willing to purchase a product when time is running out.
Tip: If you want to reach the ‘top of the pile’ quicker, list your auction for 2 or 3 days instead of 7 days.
When to push your listing live
So, how can we make sure they see our listing? Two factors can really increase our chances of that camera being seen: listing day and listing time. This may not seem really important at first but it may determine whether your product sells or not.
Day of the week
Most people who sell on eBay will tell you that for the best chances of selling, your auction should end sometime from noon Saturday to lat evening on Sunday. This is when people have the most time to browse online. So, you want your listing to end during this time frame. Ending your listing on a Monday morning is not going to get a lot of viewers.
Time to end the listing
Here again there are some things to consider. First, who am I trying to sell my item to?
If your target market is younger people, 18-24 for example, end the auction later at night. This is when they are online and looking for deals. If you’re selling items that appeal to young adults, it’s good to take a look at the television schedule. Maybe ending an auction during an episode of “Lost” isn’t the best time; nor would a Friday night be a good time. For older people, 45 and older, end the auction in the late a
